World PR Forum: Upholding the Values of Responsible Communication

Chairman of Perhumas Indonesia Boy Kelana said that the world of public relations is entering a challenging era, where global issues and extraordinary information flows present both challenges and responsibilities for communication actors. Meanwhile, President & CEO of Global Alliance Justin Green revealed that social media has democratized the flow of information, making it difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction.

This was revealed by Boy and Justin at the opening of the first day of the World Public Relations Forum 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday (11/19/2024).

Boy Kelana revealed that communication practitioners and public relations must continue to uphold the values of responsible communication.

“The need for comprehensive knowledge, cross-cultural understanding, and innovative solutions is very important. We must remain guided by integrity, transparency, and accountability, and always pay attention to the ethical implications of our work,” Boy said when opening the first day of the World Public Relations Forum 2024, Tuesday (19/11/2024) in Nusa Dua, Bali.

With the theme “Purposeful Influence for the Common Good,” WPRF 2024 aims to respond to the challenges and opportunities in the global public relations industry by encouraging dialogue on innovation, ethics, and the strategic role of PR in society and organizations.

This year’s World Public Relations Forum was attended by 1,400 participants from home and abroad. A total of 22 countries sent their representatives to this year’s WPRF.

Boy added that the 2024 World Public Relations Forum is not only a milestone for Perhumas and Indonesia, but also an important moment for the global public relations community.

“As we gather here today, we are reminded of the evolving role of public relations in shaping global narratives, fostering understanding, and building trust across borders,” Boy explained.

According to Boy, communications and public relations practitioners must continue to explore trends, innovations and best practices in public relations. Because, he said, the common goal is to use the power of communication to drive positive change.

“Whether we are tackling the challenges of misinformation, bridging cultural divides, or advancing social good, our shared responsibility is clear: influence with purpose, communicate with integrity, and act with responsibility,” Boy explained.

President & CEO of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management Justin Green revealed that social media has democratized the flow of information, making it difficult to distinguish fact from fiction.

Therefore, the Global Alliance has established an academic council, conducted research and set professional standards as well as accredited international organizations and universities.

“This year, we released major research, projects including the 2024 edition of Approach to the Future, PR Communications. We have supported our members with millions of euros worth of free education, training and development programs, launched the first PR and leadership university, the first in history, the first PR and leadership university in the world, in partnership with NIPR, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations,” Green explained.

Green emphasized that the Global Alliance will continue to focus on education to improve the lives of billions of people around the world.
